Drowned Wednesday Keys to the Kingdom Book 3 Garth Nix Books

Everything is nicely tied together both within the book itself and to the other books in the series. This book and the Mister Monday feel (so far) like the biggest adventures in the series. Arthur goes everywhere and does everything and that leaves the story arc feeling very complete. The only thing I can say I disliked was how little Feverfew was actually in the book. His fight did not feel incredibly satisfying. A villain that is talked about more than he's seen is not as compelling to me. Not to mention the plethora of potential he had as an interesting antagonist that I feel we are missing out on as readers. It seems like Nix had a lot more planned for him but maybe had to cut a lot out for length perhaps? But the lack of a more compelling short-term nemesis is made up for still by the wide array of fascinating characters introduced in this book. Sunscorch is for sure now one of my absolute favorites. What a hero. <3
Favorite line in the book: "I feel it in my gut."

Drowned Wednesday Keys to the Kingdom Book 3 Garth Nix Books Reviews

I recommend this to all young readers like me!
Garth nix is such a great author!
I really like all the magical mysteries and especially leaf and Suzy
A riveting read that will keep you glued to the edge of your seat, Drowned Wenesday will keep you waiting for more.
A great book with amazing settings and villains, but not without its low points. Though not as good as the first two books, this one impressed me by taking Arthur's mission, which seemed like a repetition, and changed it by making one of the dreaded villains the person who actually needed saving. Garth Nix never ceases to impress me.
Read this series as a kid back in high school. Loved them then love them still now as an adult.
Bought for a loved one of mine that enjoy this series.
Then I discovered your books. I feel like Columbus… finally a new retreat, a breath of fresh air, a new friend. Your books have a wonderful writing style, not layered with useless facts & fiction that add pages to the novel but nothing to the story line. I adore your humor and the interplay of the characters. Thank You for sharing your wonderful talent.
There's certainly one thing to be said about everything Nix writes, and that is that it's rife with original creativity and completely new fantasy stories. However, sometimes the books themselves, although phenomenally imaginative, are hit or miss depending on how much Nix is able to flesh out the story. The Seventh Tower series, for instance, is deftly imagined, a two worlds drawn together through light and shadow, and the ability to use colored gemstones to create light beams that can do all sorts of interesting things. Unfortunately for whatever reason, Nix doesn't explore the world and the story enough. It's much more like eating watery soup than it is like consuming a good meal.

The Abhorsen Trilogy, on the other hand, is a great work, and although it's not a classic literature sort of story, the world itself is fleshed out well, so that the reader can really imagine the world and lose themselves in it. I feel like the Keys to the Kingdom series is a mixture of both, and I'd love to see the world more fully explored. The first book, especially, seems to move toward that path, but as the books progress, they seem to become more and more formulaic and lacking in substance. Ultimately, Nix's imagination seems to know no bounds, but if he would slow down and put more life into these books, I think they would be much better. Not to say that the books aren't fun to read, but I believe they could be fun to read and rich. Hopefully his next fantasy series will be more like The Abhorsen Trilogy.
