I am a big fan of The Outlander Series and I looked for something to read until the next book in Gabaldon's series was out. I stumbled upon The Ruby Brooch and was HOOKED! I was really surprised that The Last MacKlenna hooked me even harder. I love how the past and present are so intricately intertwined. Katherine Logan's characters are honest, flawed, realistic, vulnerable and dynamic. I can't wait to read her next books to see her characters cross paths with the past and the present.Tags : The Last MacKlenna (The Celtic Brooch Series Book 2) - Kindle edition by Katherine Lowry Logan. The Last MacKlenna The Celtic Brooch Series Book 2 eBook Katherine Lowry Logan Reviews
I am absolutely Hooked on this Series! I purchase each one as it is available. Love Kit! LOVE the FAMILY. It is awesome and heart warming to see the benefits of a family that can work together to befit their children, grand children and great greats regardless of differences!
What we do today, does impact their future. Make sure you leave a future legacy of LIGHT!
I already read the first book in this series. I enjoyed that one very much. This book was better than the first one. Of course, that could be because I was heavily invested in the characters by then.
The plot is intriguing and very entertaining. Elliott and Meredith are great characters. The events carry the storyline in a most enjoyable way. There is romance, mystery and even the presence of a ghost. I did sense who the villain is before the story ended. But there is a lot of goings-on before I reached that point. The romance is well done. It portrays the development of a good foundation in a loving relationship even though Elliott and Meredith go through many ups and downs until they get there. I enjoyed the secondary characters as well. They are well developed and fleshed all in all.
The book is a good read. The writing is concise and well done. So enjoy!
Yes, I'm in love with a fictitious character by the name of Dr. Elliott Fraser. Not since Rhett Butler have I found a character so endearing, so arrogant, so loving, so annoying - a truly complex man who is given to the reader bit by bit until by book's end you want to cry because the story is over.
The Last MacKlenna is the prequel to The Ruby Brooch and I must say I don't usually give much thought to prequels. But this one took me by surprise - grabbing me by the collar and throwing the book at me (figuratively). Meredith Montgomery meets Elliott Fraser over the Christmas holiday when each of them escapes from their busy worlds and stay at a B&B in Scotland - one in search of her ancestry and the other there for various reasons. For Elliott it is love at first sight although he mistakes his love for lust. Meredith - a young widow and head of a California winery that's been in her family for generations - see Elliott has a holiday fling, perhaps her last as she has recently been diagnosed with a return of the breast cancer that she beat five years earlier.
What ensues is a cat and mouse game between the two that takes us from Scotland, to Kentucky, to California and back again as we try to keep up with these two corporate jet-setters.
The Last MacKlenna is a love story, a murder mystery, a bit of history, and a throw back to another time and place that will keep the reader guessing until the final pages whether or not its true love for Meredith and Elliott. I couldn't wait to finish the story yet didn't want the story to end. I'm looking forward to The Sapphire Brooch.
If you like Scotland, men in kilts, and whiskey then this book is for you - and even if you don't you'll learn to love them after you read this book.
"The Last MacKlenna" is book two in the Celtic Brooch Series. It is a love story between two mature adults which starts in Scotland, later moves to a Kentucky horse farm, and a Napa winery. Elliot Faser, the manager of MacKlenna horse farm and Meredith Montgomery, owner of a highly successful winery are both well-heeled, high powered, successful though lonely leaders who can barely let go of their cell phones and ipads to begin a successful relationship. Through use of their private jets they are able to put together a few successful liasons and their relationship quickly gets hot enough to light quite a few fires! That is until Elliot puts both feet in his mouth and sends Meredith home upset and determined to forget about him! The characters in the series are well drawn and easy to become attached to. Elliot is loveable but flawed, and and seems to be his own worst enemy as he undermines his own efforts to heal his injured leg and ultimately nearly loses Meredith because of his hot headedness. Meredith is all business and seems strong on the outside, but on the inside she is lonely and takes on more than she can handle because she has difficulty letting others help her. This story explores fine dining, horse breeding, horse homicide, a Scottish castle, genealogy, ghosts, and winemaking. Meredith has a history of breast cancer and has to deal with it a second time. This is dealt with in a very tactful manner. There are many Scottish characters who use the brough enough to make this a fun read (as if it wasn't already)! This particular story lays a foundation for all the remaining brooch books as the MacKlenna clan is more or less reformed following the death of Mary and Sean and loss of Kit who has decided to live in past in book one. The Celtic Brooch Series is best read in order as each book builds on the previous books. An enjoyable series well worth reading!
