I'm not a runner or a big fan of thrillers so I was a bit hesitant to pick this one up but it turns out my nervousness was misplaced. Resolve is a fantastic thriller that readers of any genre can enjoy - It’s not too violent, makes you question right and wrong, and is fast-paced. The story follows Dr. Cyprus Keller, a criminology professor at a small university who is swept up in the investigation of a murdered female student. As the book races forward, Hensley untangles the web of secrets that led to the violent crime. By the time I finished reading, it was clear to me why Resolve won Best First Novel from International Thriller Writers - it's a classic whodunnit, has a twisted storyline, and a includes a diverse group of characters (not to mention a dog – because everyone loves a story with a dog).If you're looking for a great thriller that will have you questioning right and wrong, pick this one up.

Well paced thriller that I would recommend to friends... especially those who like to train for Marathons. The murders start stacking up as our ex-cop protagonist gets closer to the answers that he seeks. What I thought was unique about this story - each chapter covers one mile's worth of the protagonist's Marathon run. As he reflects on the events of the past few weeks, the miles tick by and the plot unfolds.
Any runner or anyone who's organized or volunteered to work in a marathon needs to read this book! I'd seen this advertised, but until I walked in my first 5K two weeks ago I had no idea the author was a former hometown boy. J.J. participated in the race and the announcer was promoting the book. I had no idea what it was about, but wanted to support a local writer, so I downloaded it as soon as I got home. The plot is pure genius !! Thank you, J.J., for the shout-out to the Marshall University Marathon -- J.J.'s run it and I have worked with its organizational group for years. And thank you for a well written and entertaining book. Will be looking forward to the next one! This is truly one of those reads that I would rate higher than a "5" if there was only a way to do so o)

Resolve was a unique and satisfying read! Three reasons I enjoyed it and you should check it out
1) Like the author and the protagonist of the book, I am a runner - I've read a lot of nonfiction/journalism/autobiography about running, but this is the first time I've encountered fiction that really addresses distance running - as a plot element, as critical to character development, and even as a clever structural device for the entire book.
2) As a detective/crime novel, it was entertaining and satisfying. It was a nice mix of the plot twists and standard elements that make many of us enjoy this type of book (and for that matter, this type of TV show or movie), but at the same time there were some unique takes on relationships between agencies or on the individual thought processes of investigators that made this book sit a little outside the crime fiction mainstream (in a good way).
3) Background elements are well-researched and thoughtful. The Pittsburgh-area setting has lots of local history and geography elements that are enjoyable, and the higher education setting also provides both some entertainment/comic relief but also some believable frustrations and personality types.
Highly recommend, and looking forward to what might come next from this author.
I adore this book. I always enjoy a good crime thriller. Yet this murderous tale is interwoven and framed by another of my favorite interests--running. Instead of chapters, Resolve constructs its narrative through flashbacks along each mile of the race. I really enjoyed the construction of the story, but even beyond this innovation, the story itself is captivating. I liked the character of the narrator. I cared about him and what was happening to him, all of it drawing me in. Marathon pace is perfect for the tale. I would highly recommend running this race with the author.
Often I have a difficult time finding a thriller to read. My favorite authors, Harlan Coben, Lisa Gardiner, Linwood Barclay, Joseph Finder and Kevin O'Brien usually only write one a year, so I'm always on the lookout for new thriller writers. I prefer that the main character is an average Joe, not a police detective or someone in law enforcement.
I chose Resolve because it's nominated for an award for Best Debut Novel by the International Thriller Writers.
From page one I was hooked. Hensley uses each mile of the marathon he's running as a jumping off point to tell how his hero got to where he was and why he was doing what he was. I love that he used this format, as it let me see the scene from the hero's eyes. Plus the backstory didn't seem like an intrusion into the plot, instead it was the plot.
Hensley took me on a thrill ride like I've not been on for awhile. He drew very real characters and I could almost feel his feet pounding the pavement during his runs. I highly recommend this book for any thriller lover and any runner. It kept me on the edge of my chair until the last page.
Absolutely stunning. Very well written and thought out. This book is immediately in my top 10 list books. Simply amazing.
I was hooked from the prologue and couldn't put it down. Yes, I'm from Pittsburgh, so the backdrop of the city had my walking in the footsteps of the story, which was incredibly fun. Still, this book could've been based in any city and it would still have been a gripping page-turner.
I don't run, but the setting of the marathon and breaking down the chapter into each mile was incredibly unique and insightful. It honestly wanted me to start running (we'll see if my body agrees).
As for the mystery, you'll just have to judge and see for your yourself. It's one of those books that I simply could not put down.
I read it cover-to-cover in less than two days and loved every second of it. I love this book and am a new fan of the author, having already started in on "Measure Twice". I think that mystery genre has a new master.
I'm supremely confident that you'll enjoy this read if you like mysteries. Enjoy.
